Aston Villa Enquire About Onyedika After AFCON 2025 Heroics

Premier league side, Aston Villa are weighing up midfield reinforcements after fresh injury concerns for Boubacar Kamara, with reports suggesting the club has made an enquiry for Nigeria international Raphael Onyedika.

Kamara was forced off early in last week’s FA Cup tie at Tottenham Hotspur with a knee problem, raising fears given his previous ACL injury. Unai Emery admitted the severity of the issue remains a worry, prompting Villa to explore alternatives.

The club had been pursuing Conor Gallagher, but the England midfielder opted to join Tottenham from Atletico Madrid.

Transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri reported on X that Villa have now turned their attention to Onyedika, currently at Club Brugge.

The 24‑year‑old has built a strong reputation in Belgium, registering eight goals and five assists across 165 appearances in all competitions.

He has featured 22 times in the Champions League, including helping Brugge reach the last 16 in 2024‑25 before bowing out against Villa.

Although Galatasaray are thought to be leading the race for his signature, Villa’s enquiry signals their intent to compete for the 23‑cap international.

Onyedika has 18 months left on his contract and may be open to a new challenge. He recently represented Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, scoring two goals and playing a key role in their third‑place finish after a penalty‑shootout victory over Egypt.
