Troost-Ekong Agrees Deal with Qatari Side, Al Ahli Until 2028

Nigerian defender William Troost-Ekong is set to continue his globe-trotting career with a move to Qatar, joining Al Ahli SC from Saudi Arabian side Al Kholood.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal on Monday, reporting that Troost-Ekong has agreed a contract with Al Ahli that will run until June 2028.

The former Super Eagles captain, who recently stepped away from international duty, will now anchor the defence of one of Qatar’s most prominent clubs.

Troost-Ekong, 32, has enjoyed a career spanning multiple countries and leagues, including spells in England, Italy, Turkey, Greece, the Netherlands, and Saudi Arabia.

His leadership qualities and experience made him a sought-after figure.

The move marks another chapter for a player who has been central to Nigeria’s defence for years, including their run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final. While his international career has paused, Troost-Ekong’s new adventure in Qatar suggests he remains determined to compete at a high level.
