CAF Champions League: Rivers United jet out for win-or-bust clash with Power Dynamo in Ndola

Rivers United have departed Nigeria for Zambia ahead of what is shaping up to be a decisive CAF Champions League Group A encounter against Power Dynamo.

The Pride of Rivers left Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday night aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight, with a stopover in Addis Ababa before arriving in Ndola on Wednesday.

The Nigerian champions will face Power Dynamo at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday, January 24, 2026, with kickoff set for 3pm local time (2pm Nigeria time).

For Rivers United, the fixture is nothing short of win-or-bust. Finidi George’s side have endured a difficult start to their group stage campaign, losing 3-0 to Egypt’s Pyramids FC in Cairo before suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to RS Berkane of Tunisia in November.

Those back-to-back losses have left them bottom of the group and in desperate need of points.

Their opponents, Power Dynamo, are also winless after two matches, meaning Saturday’s clash is crucial for both sides.

Victory in Ndola would revive Rivers United’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage, especially with two of their remaining three fixtures to be played at home. But defeat would effectively end their campaign unless they can pull off a perfect run in their final matches.
