Sheffield United Boss Tight-Lipped on Frank Onyeka Transfer Talk
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has remained coy over reports linking the club with Nigeria international Frank Onyeka, as the Blades continue their search for midfield reinforcements.
Onyeka, who impressed for the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, has been strongly linked with a move to Bramall Lane amid interest from other clubs.
The defensive midfielder has struggled for regular minutes at Premier League side Brentford this season, making just nine appearances across all competitions, with two assists to his name. He has featured for only 88 minutes in the league and 244 minutes in the Carabao Cup.
Speaking ahead of Sheffield United’s midweek clash against Southampton, Wilder admitted his side is working hard to strengthen in midfield but stopped short of confirming any specific targets.
‘Keep trying. We’re after somebody in the middle of the park, so there’s a list of players that are there, and some are on the spot and some are miles off. And as I said last week, we work incredibly hard to try and get them over the line. We’re still working incredibly hard to improve,’ Wilder told reporters.
Onyeka played a key role for Nigeria at AFCON, partnering captain Wilfred Ndidi to provide balance in Eric Chelle’s midfield setup. His performances have fueled speculation that a move away from Brentford could reignite his club career, with Sheffield United emerging as a possible destination.
