Birmingham City Boss Hails Osayi-Samuel’s AFCON 2025 Heroics

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has hailed the performances of Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, describing him as a player who ‘certainly did the country proud.’

With Ola Aina sidelined through injury, Osayi-Samuel stepped into the right-back role for Nigeria and played a pivotal part in guiding the team to five consecutive victories.

The former Fenerbahçe player impressed with his consistency, balancing defensive solidity with attacking contributions throughout the tournament.

Speaking ahead of Birmingham City’s Championship fixture against Stoke City on Saturday, Davies congratulated Osayi-Samuel on his achievements despite Nigeria narrowly missing out on the title.

‘He’s back, which is great news, and congratulations to him for his performances and Nigeria’s in the tournament. Although they couldn’t go on to win it, they certainly did the country proud and Bright really enjoyed being part of that, so we are pleased to have him back,’ Davies said.

Osayi-Samuel was substituted in the third-place play-off against Egypt after sustaining a hamstring issue in the second half. However, Davies confirmed that the defender has recovered and is available for selection.

‘He is available. There was a little something there but we’ve had him checked out and he’s trained as well today, he’s fine,’ the manager added.

Osayi-Samuel’s return provides Birmingham City with a timely boost as they prepare for a crucial home clash at St. Andrew’s this weekend.
