Sanusi Tops Super Eagles’ Active Champions League Appearance Chart

As the final round of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League League Phase unfolds across Europe, Nigerian stars are once again in the spotlight.

With clubs battling for automatic quarter-final spots or playoff places, attention also turns to which active Super Eagles players have built the strongest pedigree in Europe’s elite competition.

Zaidu Sanusi – 28 appearances
The FC Porto left-back leads the list with 28 Champions League appearances, more than any other current Super Eagles player. Sanusi has also contributed two goals in the competition, underlining his consistency at the highest level.

Victor Osimhen – 22 appearances, 15 goals
Now at Galatasaray, Osimhen faces Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium tonight. The former African Footballer of the Year holds the record for most goals by a Nigerian in the Champions League, with 15 strikes across his 22 appearances.

Raphael Onyedika – 22 appearances, 2 goals
At just 24, Onyedika has already featured in 22 Champions League matches, all with Club Brugge. The midfielder has scored twice and will be in action against Marseille in Belgium.

Samuel Chukwueze – 20 appearances
The winger has played 20 times in the competition, representing Villarreal and AC Milan before his current loan spell at Fulham. Chukwueze’s standout moment remains his decisive goal that knocked Bayern Munich out in the 2022 quarter-finals.

Ademola Lookman – 14 appearances, 6 goals
Lookman has carved out a reputation at Atalanta, scoring six goals in 14 Champions League matches. He is set to make his 15th appearance tonight against Union Saint-Gilloise, adding to his growing European legacy.
