CAF Officials Arrive in Nigeria for Schools Championship Venue Inspection
Officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will arrive in Nigeria on Monday to begin inspections of facilities in Ikenne-Remo and Sagamu, ahead of the country’s hosting of the CAF African Schools Football Championship Final Phase later this year.
The African Schools Football Championship, launched four years ago, is an annual U15 tournament designed to develop youth football and promote education across the continent.
Backed by a $10 million investment from the Motsepe Foundation, the competition features zonal qualifiers culminating in a continental final.
The tournament is contested by both boys and girls, with winners receiving up to $300,000 in infrastructural development support.
It also involves partnerships with UNICEF and the World Health Organization, integrating health education into the programme.
The 2024 finals in Accra, Ghana saw Tanzania’s boys and Ghana’s girls crowned champions. Nigeria now prepares to host the next edition, with CAF officials set to assess readiness of venues and ancillary facilities.
