Lagos City Marathon Unveils $250,000 Prize Purse for 2026 Race

The organisers of the Lagos City Marathon have unveiled a $250,000 prize purse for the elite 42.195km race.
The prize money, which applies equally to men and women, is in line with its World Athletics Gold Label status.
According to the breakdown of $250,000 prize purse, the winner of the elite race will claim $50,000, while the first runner-up will earn $20,000.
The second runner -up (third-place finisher) will receive $15,000, with fourth and fifth positions set at $12,000 and $10,000 respectively.
Athletes finishing sixth, seventh, and eighth will also be rewarded with $8,000, $6,000, and $4,000, all in fulfilment of its status as a gold label race.
The 2026 race, scheduled for Saturday, February 14, will debut a new route starting from ORCA Mall in Victoria Island, traversing parts of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, and concluding at the iconic Eko Atlantic City.
The Lagos City Marathon is the second road race in Nigeria to enjoy a World Athletics label status after the historic Okpekpe international 10km road race in Okpekpe, Edo state which remains the first road race in Nigeria to have its race course measured by a World Athletics accredited race course measurer
