Moffi Credits Passionate Fans for Porto Transfer Decision

Nigerian striker Terem Moffi has revealed that the passion of FC Porto’s fans played a decisive role in his choice to join the Portuguese giants on loan during the winter transfer window.

Moffi left OGC Nice after a turbulent December 2025 incident in which he and teammate Jeremie Boga were attacked by angry supporters following a 3-1 Ligue 1 defeat to Lorient.

The confrontation escalated when both players, along with Sporting Director Florian Maurice, were physically assaulted after being spotted chatting with former teammates. In the aftermath, Moffi and Boga requested to be excluded from the squad and pushed for exits.

While Boga sealed a move to Juventus, Moffi completed a paid loan switch to Porto worth €8 million, with an option to buy and a 10% sell-on clause.

Explaining his decision, Moffi said his admiration for Porto’s supporters dates back to his earlier visit to Estadio do Dragão with Nice in European competition.

‘I remember when we came here to play, when we walked in for warm up. Now, from the game I watched, I think the history speaks for itself at Porto. If you walk on the streets, just ask about Porto, the history speaks for itself,’ he said.

The Super Eagles forward added that the country’s football culture made the move even more appealing.

‘Everyone loves football in the country; you could see it from the airport to the stadium, where I’ve been, it’s always football.
