NPFL Drama: Remo Stars Collapse, Kwara United Win, Ikorodu City Falter
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 24 produced drama across the country as relegation battles and title races took center stage.
Defending champions Remo Stars endured yet another setback, suffering their 14th loss of the season at home to Plateau United.
Jonathan Okechukwu opened the scoring for the visitors in the 28th minute, before Albert Korvah leveled for the Sky Blue in the 63rd. However, Harrison Ebah’s stoppage-time strike sealed a 2-1 win for Plateau United, boosting their survival hopes.
Remo Stars now hold the unwanted record of most defeats in the division this season.
In Ilorin, Kwara United secured their seventh victory of the season with a 2-1 triumph over Warri Wolves. Olaniyi Saheed struck twice, first in the 17th minute and again just after the restart, to give the Harmony Boys a commanding lead.
Warri Wolves responded through Peter Ita 15 minutes from time but failed to find an equalizer. Despite the win, Kwara United remain in the relegation zone, sitting 17th, while Warri Wolves edge closer to double-digit defeats this campaign.
In Kano, Barau FC stunned title-chasing Ikorodu City with a narrow 1-0 victory. Uche Moses scored the decisive goal in the 28th minute, ensuring Barau FC moved three points clear of the drop zone.
Ikorodu City, meanwhile, remain fourth, three points behind leaders Rivers United, who still have three games in hand. Their away form continues to be a concern, with six consecutive winless outings on the road.
