‘Ability to Change Play’: Atletico Madrid Manager Simeone Excited by Lookman Arrival

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has praised new signing Ademola Lookman, highlighting the Nigerian forward’s ability to “change the play” and make a decisive impact in the final third.
Lookman was officially unveiled at the Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday after completing a €40 million move from Atalanta.
The 28-year-old had been close to joining Turkish giants Fenerbahce, but the deal collapsed when the club failed to meet Atalanta’s payment guarantees. Atletico, who had tracked him since last summer following his failed switch to Inter Milan, finally secured his signature after Lookman met with Simeone and gave his approval.
The Super Eagles star, a former African Footballer of the Year, was welcomed with the traditional initiation ritual during training shortly after signing his contract. Reports from SpidyAtletico suggest Simeone has already been impressed by what he has seen.
‘He joined the group very quickly, and you could immediately notice his physical strength, his speed, his ability to change the play, and his power in the final third. We hope he can help us in the way he believes he can, and in the way we expect,’ Simeone said.
‘And obviously, that important partnerships are formed for the good of the team, because that’s what it’s about: bringing good players together.’
Lookman is expected to feature in Atletico’s Copa del Rey quarter-final clash against Real Betis on Thursday.
