Awoniyi’s Solo Strike Wins Nottingham Forest Goal of the Month

Taiwo Awoniyi has been named Nottingham Forest’s Goal of the Month winner for January 2026 after his stunning solo effort in the club’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Brentford.

The Nigerian forward doubled Forest’s lead at the GTECH Community Stadium, following Ola Aina’s assist for Igor Jesus in the first half. Awoniyi produced a moment of brilliance when he latched onto a long pass from Morgan Gibbs-White, drove into the Brentford penalty area, shrugged off his marker, and slotted a composed low finish past goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.

His strike, chosen from seven nominated goals, marked his first of the season and highlighted his determination to make an impact despite a difficult spell.

The 28-year-old has struggled with recurrent injuries and inconsistent form over the past two campaigns, limiting him to just eight league appearances and 204 minutes of action this term.

Linked with a possible exit during the winter transfer window, Awoniyi reaffirmed his commitment to Nottingham Forest and the Premier League.
