Aweroro: Shooting Stars Must Take Responsibility After Defeat

Head coach of Shooting Stars, Nurudeen Aweroro, has voiced his frustration after his side’s defensive lapses cost them in their 2-0 defeat to Kun Khalifat in Sunday’s NPFL matchday 25 clash in Owerri.

The Oluyole Warriors conceded goals to James Ekebuike and Blessed Iyamu, suffering their ninth loss of the 2025/26 campaign.

The result leaves them seven points clear of the relegation zone, though their form remains troubling, with four consecutive away defeats now on record.

Aweroro, formerly in charge of Ikorodu City, admitted his team must take responsibility for their mistakes but insisted they will bounce back.

‘We gave away too many chances, and Kun Khalifat capitalised on them. We need to work on our defending, and take responsibility for our mistakes. We’ll regroup and come back stronger,’ he said after the game.

Despite the setback, Shooting Stars remain in seventh place on the table with 35 points from 24 matches, but their coach knows improvement is vital if they are to avoid being dragged into the relegation battle.
