Fans Turn on Finidi After Rivers United’s CAF Champions League Collapse

Rivers United head coach Finidi George came under heavy criticism from fans after the team’s 4-1 defeat to Egypt’s Pyramids in the CAF Champions League at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
With the scoreline, Rivers United have conceded 4 goals at home on the continent for the first time in their history. They are the third Nigerian club ever to concede 4+ goals at home on the continent.
A video circulating online shows supporters heckling the coach, accusing him of incompetence and even blaming him for Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The loss marked Rivers United’s fourth defeat in five matches in the competition, leaving them winless in Group A and officially out of contention, with only a single draw recorded.
The frustration among fans boiled over as the team’s poor run continued, making them the only side in the group yet to secure a victory.
Rivers United will now travel to Morocco for their final group fixture against RS Berkane this weekend.
Meanwhile, their domestic campaign in the Nigeria Professional Football League has been disrupted, with four outstanding matches still to be played due to their continental commitments.
