Ruth Usoro Set for European Indoor Debut in Belgrade; Okezie, Enekwechi Also Listed To Compete

Former African Games triple jump champion and 2022 World Indoor finalist Ruth Usoro will make her European indoor debut on Wednesday at the Belgrade Indoor Meeting, part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour – Gold series.

The 28-year-old, who has battled periods of inactivity in recent years, is eager to regain ground in the world rankings.

Usoro returned to competition last month at the Texas Tech Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas, where she recorded a season’s best of 6.26m in the long jump. She is listed to compete in the same event in Belgrade and will be the only Nigerian woman in action at the prestigious meet.

For the men, reigning African Games 400m champion Chidi Okezie will continue his European indoor campaign.

The 32-year-old has already raced in Luxembourg, where he clocked a season’s best of 46.62, and in Stockholm. His indoor personal best stands at 46.48, a mark that places him outside Nigeria’s all-time top 10.

Shot put specialist Chukwuebuka Enekwechi is also set to compete in Belgrade after finishing fifth in Madrid last week, adding further Nigerian presence to the event.
