Ejiro Peters Sees Niger Delta Games Gold as Launchpad for Future Success

Ejiro Peters delivered a sparkling performance at the 2nd Niger Delta Games, storming to victory in the women’s 100m final with a new personal best of 11.58 seconds.

Representing Delta State, she crossed the line ahead of Edo’s Praise Tejiri, who clocked 11.76 seconds, and Imoisemeh Victory, who finished in 11.78 seconds to secure bronze for the host state.

Speaking afterwards, Peters described her triumph as a golden moment that will propel her to greater heights in athletics.

‘I’ve been praying for this moment. It’s really a great moment. I will say I was not expecting it, actually. But it came and I’m very excited because for me to be competing for my state is a big one for me. I just give all the glory to God,’ she said.

The sprinter, who erased her previous personal best of 11.67 seconds, credited her coach Emily Osakwe for guiding her to success.

‘I also want to thank my coach, coach Emily Osakwe, for believing in me. Emerging as the best is a great opportunity for me and I am going to build on that for the future,’ she added.

Her victory not only underlines Delta State’s dominance on the track but also sets Peters up as one of the brightest young talents to watch in Nigerian athletics.
