Okereke and Udoh Shine in 400m Finals at 2nd Niger Delta Games

Treasure Okereke of Delta State reaffirmed her dominance in the women’s 400m, storming to gold in 52.50 seconds at the 2nd Niger Delta Games in Benin City, Edo State.

The defending champion improved on her winning time of 52.70 from the last edition, producing the second‑fastest mark by an African U20 athlete this year, behind Chioma Nwachukwu’s 51.93 set in January in the United States.

The race was one of the fastest seen on the continent this season, with Jecinter Andrew of Akwa Ibom taking silver in 53.83 and Siviana Ossai of Delta claiming bronze in 53.85.

In the men’s 400m, Davido Udoh of Akwa Ibom delivered a statement performance, racing to victory in 47.97 seconds.

His time is the second‑fastest by a Nigerian U20 athlete this year, trailing only David Akhalu’s 47.00 earlier in February, and ranks sixth in Africa for the age group.

Chidiebere Chigozie of Rivers finished second in 48.44, while Edo’s Mumuni Sani‑Mohammed secured third in 48.60.
