Adeshina Chases Historic Hat-Trick at Big 12 Championships

Nigeria’s high jump record holder and reigning NCAA indoor champion, Temitope Adeshina, will begin her bid to make history at the Big 12 Championships when she files out for the high jump event in Lubbock, Texas on Friday.

Adeshina currently tops the NCAA performance list this season with the 1.97m clearance she achieved at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the end of January.

That mark not only reaffirmed her dominance but also set her apart as the athlete to beat heading into the championships.

She is the defending Big 12 champion and will be bidding for a hat-trick of titles in the high jump.

If successful, she will become the first woman in history to win the Big 12 high jump crown three times in a row.

But Adeshina’s ambitions stretch beyond the conference stage. She has her eyes firmly set on the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships next month, where she hopes to defend her title and further cement her place among the best collegiate high jumpers of all time.

Her biggest obstacle at the Sports Performance Centre in Lubbock is expected to be her Texas Tech teammate, Evelyn Lavielle, who has cleared 1.90m this year and will be looking to challenge the Nigerian star.
