Texas Tech’s Adeshina Returns to Bowerman Watch List Since 2024
Temitope Adeshina of Texas Tech has rejoined the Bowerman Women’s Watch List following her record-breaking performance at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Wednesday.
Adeshina cleared 1.96m to capture her third consecutive Big 12 indoor high jump title, becoming the first female athlete in conference history to achieve the feat.
The mark tied her for No. 2 in Texas Tech history and set a new meet record, surpassing the previous 1.93m standard held by Kansas State’s Akela Jones (2016) and Texas’ Destinee Hooker (2009).
Her dominance earned her a return to the Bowerman Watch List for the first time since 2024, cementing her place among the nation’s elite.
The Big 12 made headlines with four athletes named to the Watch List, its highest total since 2021 and double the entries of both the SEC and Big Ten.
Alongside Adeshina, the conference featured two first-time selections, Riley Chamberlain of BYU and Billah Jepkirui of Oklahoma State, as well as BYU freshman Jane Hedengren, who earned her third straight appearance.
The Bowerman Award is the highest honour in NCAA track and field, recognizing the most outstanding male and female athletes each year.
