Bassey Rues Missed Chance as Fulham Held at Aina and Awoniyi’s Forest

Calvin Bassey admitted he should have converted a golden opportunity as Fulham were forced to settle for a goalless draw against struggling Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The Nigerian international headed straight at goalkeeper Matt Sels from Alex Iwobi’s free-kick just six yards out, as Marco Silva’s side failed to score for the third successive game.

Reflecting on the miss, Bassey told Sky Sports: ‘It was a big chance. I wasn’t sure if I was on or off. I timed it well, but hit it straight at the goalkeeper.

‘It’s got to be a goal. The conditions for both teams with the pitch and the wind made it a difficult game. We tried to manage the situations as best we could.’

Despite the frustration in front of goal, Bassey was pleased to help Fulham secure their first clean sheet of 2026, ending a run of eleven matches without one.

‘We kept a great [offside] line. There was a bit of luck as well. That’s what VAR is for,’ he added.

The former Rangers defender also insisted Fulham’s hopes of European qualification remain alive.

‘I don’t think it’s ruled out. We take each game as it comes, anything can happen. I haven’t looked at the table. Hopefully, things work in our favour as well.’

Fulham’s stalemate leaves them searching for answers in attack, but Bassey’s defensive resilience and optimism suggest the Whites still believe their season can be salvaged.
