World Indoor Championships: Azu Confident After Strong Start, Eyes Title Defense

Great Britain’s Jeremiah Azu began his title defense in style, clocking 6.55 seconds in the heats to secure qualification for the semi-finals at the World Indoor Championships.

The reigning champion produced the fifth-fastest time overall, setting the tone for what promises to be a long and demanding day on the track.

Reflecting on his performance, Azu described the run as one of his best in a major championship heat.

‘This was a nice run, especially for the morning. It was the fastest race I’ve done in the heats at a major championships. This track feels good. Coming here as the title defender, I don’t feel any pressure,’ he said in his post-race quotes supplied by World Athletics.

The 24-year-old sprinter emphasized the physical and mental demands of championship racing, noting that while it may appear straightforward on television, the reality is far more challenging.

‘I will go back to the hotel, take lunch, probably take a nap, chill with my family a bit and get back for the semi-finals, and complete the job. I want to bring the title back to the UK.’
