Marseille Manager, Habib Beye: CAF’s Senegal AFCON 2025 Title Withdrawal ‘Incomprehensible’

Olympique de Marseille manager Habib Beye has expressed strong disapproval of the African Football Confederation’s (CAF) decision to withdraw Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, following an appeal by the Moroccan football federation.

Speaking at a press conference, Beye described the ruling as ‘incomprehensible’ and ‘inappropriate,’ noting that it comes two months after Senegal’s victory was confirmed.

‘The title was earned on the pitch and deserved,’ Beye stated. ‘This decision does not put our continent in a good light. If a ruling had to be made, it should have been made immediately, in line with the regulations.’

Beye, a former Senegal international with 45 caps, emphasized his hope that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will uphold the original result.

‘This situation is difficult for CAF and for everyone involved,’ he concluded. ‘Two months on, there is mainly confusion and disappointment surrounding a decision that will be hard for both nations to accept.’
