NFF Congress Approves Statute Amendments, Names New Electoral Committees
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) concluded its Extraordinary General Assembly on Monday, 23rd March 2026, at the D.S.P. Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, with far-reaching decisions aimed at strengthening football governance in the country.
The Congress opened with a solemn one-minute silence in memory of former NFF Technical Director and two-time Super Eagles coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, former Nigeria captain Henry Nwosu (MON), and other football stakeholders who passed away in recent months.
Delegates unanimously approved amendments to the NFF Statutes (March 2026 Edition), the NFF Electoral Code, and the Standing Orders of the General Assembly, following proposals from the Executive Committee.
In addition, twelve persons nominated from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones were appointed to serve on the NFF Electoral Committee and the NFF Electoral Appeals Committee. The appointees will be inaugurated in Abuja on Wednesday, 25th March 2026, where they will select their chairmen in line with the Electoral Code.
The Congress also ratified the appointment of Ernst and Young (EY) as the new Independent Auditor of the Federation, after a rigorous selection process involving seven firms.
EY will serve a four-year term, consistent with Federal Government regulations and NFF Statutes. Delegates commended PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for its nine years of meritorious service in the same role.
Finally, the Congress approved that the 2026 Elective Congress of the Nigeria Football Federation will be staged in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Saturday, 26th September 2026.
