NPFL Title Race Heats Up as Rivers United Falter Again with Fourth Defeat in A Row!

Rivers United endured their heaviest defeat of the season on Monday, falling 4-1 to Nasarawa United in Lafia in their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 31 clash.
The loss marked their fourth defeat in their last five games, leaving their title hopes in serious doubt. Nasarawa stunned their visitors with three quick goals in the first half before Jofrank Istifanus added a fourth in the 58th minute to seal a comprehensive victory.
The result further strengthened Rangers’ position at the top of the table following their win over El-Kanemi Warriors in Enugu on Sunday.
Rangers have now gone unbeaten in their last five matches, winning three and drawing two, and look firmly in control of the title race.
Elsewhere, Abia Warriors boosted their own ambitions with a 2-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes in Umuahia. The hosts struck in the first half before Casmir Azubuike doubled the lead in the 65th minute, consigning the Minna-based side to their 14th defeat of the campaign.
The win lifted Abia Warriors into fifth place, pushing Shooting Stars of Ibadan down to sixth after the Oluyole Warriors lost away to Katsina United.
Looking ahead, Rivers United will attempt to bounce back when they host Kun Khalifat in Port Harcourt in their matchday 32 fixture, while Rangers will travel to Ibadan for a crucial clash against Shooting Stars.
