MoC Athletics Academy Secures Record 28-Medal Haul at MTN CHAMPS Continental Relays
The MTN CHAMPS Continental Relays in Jos delivered a thrilling spectacle of athletic excellence, with MoC Athletics Academy emerging as one of the standout teams of the competition.
The Academy recorded its biggest medal haul to date, clinching 28 medals across Senior, Junior, and Youth categories viz 12 Gold, 10 Silver, and 6 Bronze.
MoC’s senior athletes set the tone with nine medals, highlighted by Toheebat Jimoh’s triple-medal performance.
Jimoh claimed Silver in the 400m with a Season’s Best of 53.88s, before storming to Gold in both the 100m (PB 12.03s) and 200m (PB 24.35s). Ezekiel Eno Asuquo also impressed, winning Gold in the men’s 400m (SB 46.26s) and adding Silver in the 200m.
The Junior team matched the seniors with nine medals, showcasing future stars.
Lucy Nwankwo qualified for the World U-20 Championships in both the 100m and 200m, running PBs of 11.52s and 23.76s. In the men’s sprints, Emmanuel Akolo led a historic MoC podium sweep in the 100m, while Michael Aniche stunned with Gold in both the 200m (PB 21.84s) and 400m (PB 48.19s).
MoC’s Youth athletes delivered six medals, including four Gold. Fervent Edet dominated the boys’ sprints with a double victory in the 100m and 200m, while Rebecca Enilolobo and Chizoba Gift Onyemauwa shone in the girls’ events, each securing multiple podium finishes.
The relays capped off MoC’s remarkable outing. The Junior mixed 4x100m team of Ogbonna, Nwankwo, Oyewale, and Akolo stormed to Gold in 44.64s, while the Senior mixed 4x400m squad of Donald, Jimoh, Asuquo, and Magaji clinched Gold in 3:30.70s.
