Jamaican Shanoya Douglas Warns Miracle Ezechukwu with incredible 10.98, 22.36 Sprint Double

Shanoya Douglas lit up the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Championships in Kingston with two world-class performances that have positioned her as one of the favourites for the World U20 Championships in Oregon later this year.

The Holland High star stormed to a world-leading 10.98 in the 100m before completing the sprint double in the 200m with a national U20 record of 22.36.

What makes the latter performance particularly significant is that it came into a -1.6m/s headwind, underlining Douglas’ ability to deliver elite times even in adverse conditions.

Already this season she had clocked 11.06 and 22.58, but her latest marks move her into the top ten on the world U20 all-time lists and confirm her status as one of the fastest teenagers in history.

Her dominance in Kingston serves as a warning to Nigeria’s Miracle Ezechukwu, who is expected to spearhead Nigeria’s team in Oregon after running 11.26 and 22.91 at the MTN Championships in Jos last week.

With both athletes now producing world-class times, anticipation is building for a potential showdown between the Jamaican and Nigerian prodigies on the global stage.

Douglas was not the only athlete to serve notice of what is to come in Oregon.

Riquelme Reid won the boys’ 100m in 10.12, Jason Pitter shattered the class 2 boys’ 400m record with 45.76, Joseph Salmon broke the U19 discus record with 67.55m, and Nastassia Fletcher set a world U20 lead in the 400m hurdles with 56.70.

Each of these performances highlighted the depth of talent Jamaica will take to the United States later this year.

But it was Douglas who stole the headlines. Her blistering sprint double has not only redefined expectations for Jamaican juniors but has also set the stage for one of the most exciting rivalries in world athletics when she lines up against Ezechukwu and other rising stars in Oregon.
