Burka’a Pledges ‘Best-Ever’ NFF Elections in Lafia

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has inaugurated its Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee, formally setting the stage for the 2026 elections into the NFF Executive Committee.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja, was presided over by NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, MON. He urged members of both committees to discharge their duties with fairness, transparency, and integrity, stressing that the credibility of the polls would be vital for Nigerian football.
Barr. Matthew Burka’a, SAN, who spoke on behalf of the committees, pledged that the elections would be conducted with the utmost seriousness and professionalism.
‘We are going to conduct a free, fair, credible and acceptable election. We will work assiduously towards this election being the best-ever in the history of the Nigeria Football Federation,’ he assured.
Burka’a will serve alongside Alhaji Babagoni Grema, Alhaji Bature Musa, Ayibaye Peter Great Temedie, Esq, and Hon. (Dr) Akogun Olugbenga Omole in the Electoral Committee, with Arinze Azubuike Anughele, Esq, and Abayomi Akin Omoyimi, Esq as alternates.
The Electoral Appeals Committee comprises Hon. Justice C. J. Aneke, Barr. Benjamin Sati, and Professor Abdulmalik Awwal, with FIFA Emmanuel Dada Obafemi and Ayi Ekpo Ukpayam as alternates.
In line with NFF statutes, the General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, MON, will serve as secretary to both committees.
The elections are scheduled to take place in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Saturday, 26th September 2026.
Dignitaries present at the inauguration included Comrade Philip Shaibu, Director General of the National Institute for Sports; Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, NFF 1st Vice President; NFF Executive Committee members His Excellency Silas Agara and Chief George Aluo; and senior NFF management staff.
