Onojuvwevwo Named SEC Women’s Runner of the Week
LSU track and field standout Ella Onojuvwevwo has been named Southeastern Conference Women’s Runner of the Week, the league office has announced.
The honour marks the first weekly SEC award of Onojuvwevwo’s collegiate career and continues a strong run for LSU, which has now collected five weekly conference honours during the outdoor season.
Onojuvwevwo delivered a historic performance at the Battle on the Bayou, crossing the line in the 400m with a time of 49.59 seconds.
The mark makes her the first LSU athlete ever to break the 50‑second barrier in the event, indoors or outdoors, and places her a full second ahead of the next fastest woman in program history.
Her time also solidifies her position as the world leader in 2026, the only athlete to dip under 50 seconds this year. It gives her the NCAA lead, while ranking No. 10 in collegiate history, No. 7 in African history, and No. 4 in Nigerian history.
In addition to her individual success, Onojuvwevwo anchored LSU’s 4×400‑meter relay squad to victory with a time of 3:26.51. That performance stands as the fourth‑fastest in program history, sixth in the NCAA, and fifth in the SEC this season.
