WAFCON 2026: Ajibade Calls Out NFF Over Poor Super Falcons Preparations
Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has publicly criticized Nigeria’s build-up to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2026) and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers, taking to her Instagram stories on April 9 to question the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) commitment.
‘We are just preparing for the women’s African Cup of Nations; we are also fighting for World Cup qualification… so why are we not preparing with the seriousness and intensity this demands? Abeg wetin be all this one, for how long?’ Ajibade posted.
Her remarks reflect growing frustration among players over disrupted preparations.
Nigeria’s scheduled friendlies against Cape Verde were cancelled, leaving the team without competitive build-up matches ahead of WAFCON in Morocco.
Ajibade, who has become one of the most vocal leaders in Nigerian women’s football, also shared screenshots of informal communication from NFF officials about camp dates, highlighting what she described as a lack of professionalism and urgency.
The Super Falcons, nine-time African champions, face mounting pressure to deliver at WAFCON 2026 while also securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
