Edo FA Launches LOC for Raymond Dokpesi Memorial Media Cup

The Edo State Football Association has inaugurated a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to oversee the maiden edition of the Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi Memorial Media Cup, a tournament designed to honor one of Nigeria’s most influential media pioneers.
The ceremony, held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the UBTH Sports Complex in Benin City, was conducted by the Chairman of the Edo State FA, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, following a meeting with key stakeholders.
The event signaled the Association’s commitment to blending sports with legacy-building initiatives that celebrate excellence and national impact.
The newly constituted LOC includes senior officials of the Edo FA, representatives of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), and veteran media professionals.
Together, they will spearhead preparations for the competition, which is conceived as a celebration of the enduring legacy of the late High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi.
The Memorial Media Cup will feature eight distinguished media houses competing in a spirited 7-a-side football format. Organisers say the tournament will promote unity, camaraderie, and professionalism, reflecting the values of teamwork and discipline that Dokpesi championed throughout his career.
The grand finale is scheduled for Friday, May 29, 2026, a date chosen to symbolically mark the anniversary of Dokpesi’s passing. Beyond the sporting spectacle, the event is expected to serve as a moment of reflection on his transformative contributions to Nigeria’s media and communication landscape.
The Edo State Football Association has pledged to deliver a well-organized and impactful tournament, ensuring that the memory of High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi is preserved and celebrated through the unifying power of football.
