Arteta: Bournemouth Defeat a Big Punch in the Face

Mikel Arteta admitted his side were far from their usual level, describing the loss as ‘a big punch in the face.’

He stressed the importance of how Arsenal respond in the coming week, with huge fixtures looming.

The manager pointed to the opening goal, where a deflection and poor defending allowed Bournemouth to strike.

‘We did a lot of strange things today,’ he said, acknowledging that his team’s efficiency deserted them.

Arteta gave credit to the visitors, who extended their unbeaten streak to 12 league matches.

‘They’ve not lost for 11 games for a reason,’ he noted, highlighting their ability to capitalize on Arsenal’s mistakes.

The Spaniard insisted the setback must hurt but also serve as fuel.

‘You stand up and go for the fight, or you are out. That’s what this level is going to require now.’

With Manchester City still to play and Arsenal heading to the Etihad next weekend, the Gunners’ margin for error has narrowed.

Arteta emphasized: ‘It’s a big week, there’s a lot at stake. We’re still in a good position, but we have to show it.’
