Manchester City Beat Arsenal 2-1 to Blow Premier League Title Race Wide Open

Erling Haaland was the hero at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City struck a major blow in the Premier League title race, defeating rivals Arsenal 2-1 in a tense encounter.

Haaland ended his two-month wait for a league goal in the 65th minute, outmuscling Gabriel to meet Nico O’Reilly’s cross and secure the decisive strike.

His effort came after City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s early mistake had gifted Arsenal an equaliser, raising fears that the Gunners might retain control in the title tussle.

City had taken the lead in the 16th minute through Rayan Cherki, who produced a dazzling solo effort to beat Gabriel and slot home.

But just moments later, Donnarumma’s clearance was charged down by Kai Havertz, who diverted the ball into the net to level the score.

Arsenal came close to snatching a point, with Eberechi Eze and Gabriel both hitting the woodwork, while Havertz’s stoppage-time header landed on the roof of the net.

Donnarumma redeemed himself with a crucial save to deny Havertz earlier in the second half, keeping City in contention until Haaland’s winner.

The victory leaves Manchester City three points off the summit with a game in hand against Burnley on Wednesday.

A win would see Pep Guardiola’s side leapfrog Arsenal with five matches remaining, setting up a dramatic finale to the Premier League season.
