Super Eagles World Cup Coach Onigbinde’s Burial Rites Announced

The family of late Nigerian football legend, High Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, has announced that the former Super Eagles coach will be buried on Friday, June 26, 2026, in Modakeke, Osun State.

The burial rites will begin on June 23 with a Service of Songs in Ibadan, Oyo State. On June 24, a novelty football match featuring legends from Oyo and Osun States will take place at Modakeke Islamic Grammar School, followed by another Service of Songs at his residence in Modakeke.

The ceremonies will conclude on June 26 with a thanksgiving service at St. Stephen Cathedral, Modakeke, and a reception at Modakeke Event Centre.

Onigbinde, who died at the age of 88, was celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most disciplined and principled coaches.

Fondly called ‘The Teacher’, he guided Nigeria to a silver medal at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and also managed the Super Eagles at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

His emphasis on discipline, indigenous coaching, and long-term football development earned him respect across Africa and beyond.
