Gov. Diri Hails Customs Boss Adeniyi for Grassroots Sports Support

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has showered praises on the Comptroller‑General of the Nigeria Customs Service and President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for his immense contributions to grassroots sports development in the state.
Speaking at the grand finale of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, tagged the Prosperity Cup, Governor Diri described Adeniyi as ‘more like a Bayelsan’ due to his consistent support for sporting activities in the state.
‘I want to extend our gratitude to the Comptroller‑General of the Nigeria Customs Service who took over from our son Champion Daniel Igali as the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Adewale Adeniyi, for his support and sponsorship to the Prosperity Cup,’ Diri said.
The governor noted that Adeniyi has played a major role in the National Wrestling Classics and has now extended his generosity to football, encouraging private individuals and organizations to complement government efforts in sports development.
Governor Diri further announced that Adeniyi donated ₦5 million to the winners of the Prosperity Cup, in addition to his earlier sponsorship of the tournament.
He emphasized that such gestures are vital for nurturing young talents and sustaining Bayelsa’s reputation as a sporting powerhouse in Nigeria.
