Superhuman Amusan Set for African Championships and Diamond League in One Week
World 100m hurdles record holder Tobiloba Amusan is set for a remarkable double challenge, competing in two elite athletics events within the span of a week.
The 29-year-old Nigerian star is already in Accra, Ghana, preparing to reclaim the African Championships crown she lost two years ago in Cameroon.
Victory would make her the third Nigerian woman to win the hurdles title three times, following in the footsteps of Maria Usifo and Glory Alozie, who both achieved hat-tricks.
The event begins on May 12, with the final scheduled for May 13.
Just three days later, Amusan will open her 2026 Diamond League campaign in Shanghai/Kepaio, where she will face one of the strongest line-ups in recent history.
The field includes the past four global outdoor champions: Ditaji Kambundji, Masai Russell, Danielle Williams, and Amusan herself, alongside three-time world indoor champion Devynne Charlton.
Amusan and Russell are the two fastest women in history over the hurdles, with personal bests of 12.12 and 12.17 respectively.
Kambundji, who claimed the world title last year in Tokyo, holds the Swiss record of 12.24. Joining them are Ackera Nugent and Tonea Marshall, both with 12.24 bests, as well as Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds and China’s Wu Yanni.
Amusan is aiming to reclaim the Diamond League crown she dominated from 2021 to 2023.
