Amusan Storms Shanghai/Keqiao Diamond League Hungry for More Glory After African Title Win
Nigeria’s sprint sensation, Tobi Amusan, has reaffirmed her dominance on the continental stage by clinching her third consecutive African 100m hurdles title at the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.
The 29-year-old, who famously set the world record in the event in 2022, described her latest triumph as a ‘historic feeling’ and expressed gratitude to God, her team, and supporters.
Writing on her official X account, Amusan declared: ‘African Champion x3. Beyond grateful to God, my team, supporters, and everyone who continues to believe in me through every season. Historic feeling. Still hungry for more. The mission continues.’
Her victory in Accra adds to an illustrious career that already boasts World Championship, Commonwealth Games, and African Games titles. Amusan now turns her attention to the Wanda Diamond League opener in Shanghai/Kepaio on Saturday, where she will begin her bid to reclaim the crown she won three years in a row between 2021 and 2023.
Beyond Shanghai, Amusan is expected to defend her Commonwealth Games title in July, aiming to become the first Nigerian track and field athlete to achieve a hat-trick of wins.
She will also target qualification for the inaugural Ultimate Championships in August, a spot she can secure either by winning the Diamond League crown or by finishing the season ranked number one in the 100m hurdles.
