Russell Threatens Amusan’s World Record, Runs 12.14 to Win in Xiamen

Olympic 100m hurdles champion Masai Russell delivered another stunning performance at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, running 12.14 seconds, the fastest time over the distance since Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan set the world record of 12.12 in 2022.

Russell, one of only three athletes in history to break 12.20 in the event, had already signaled her intent in Shanghai last week when she clocked 12.25 to win the Diamond League opener.

Her latest victory now serves notice that Amusan’s world record, achieved on her way to becoming Nigeria’s first-ever outdoor world champion, may soon be under serious threat.

Amusan finished second in Xiamen with a time of 12.28, while Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, runner-up to Russell last week, placed third in 12.37, setting a new national record.

Russell’s back-to-back victories have firmly established her as the dominant force in women’s sprint hurdles this season.
