Port Harcourt to Host Historic 2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has confirmed Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, as host city for the 2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six Finals.
This marks the first time the prestigious season-ending playoffs will be staged in the Garden City.
The championship, which crowns Nigeria’s women’s league champions, will run from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 14, 2026. Six of the country’s top clubs will battle in a round-robin format, each playing five matches over nine days.
Announcing the decision, NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Modupe Shabi, said: ‘On behalf of the management of the NWFL, we are delighted to announce Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as host of the 2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six Finals.
‘The Rivers State Government has consistently demonstrated strong support for women’s football and successfully hosted our Annual General Assembly last October. We are excited to return with our flagship competition as part of our commitment to expanding elite women’s football across Nigeria.’
The six qualified teams are defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and debutants Abia Angels.
The NWFL Premiership has produced different winners in recent years: Rivers Angels (2021), Bayelsa Queens (2022 and 2025), Delta Queens (2023), and Edo Queens (2024), setting the stage for another fiercely contested title race.
Shabi emphasized professionalism and compliance ahead of the tournament: ‘The Super Six remains the pinnacle of the NWFL Premiership season, and we are confident the fans in Rivers State will create another memorable atmosphere for players, officials, partners, and supporters. We also urge all qualified clubs to adhere strictly to all competition regulations, schedules, and directives that will be communicated subsequently by the League.’
Beyond determining Nigeria’s league champions, the Super Six will also decide the country’s representative at the WAFU-B qualifiers for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League, and ultimately, the 2027 FIFA Women’s Club Championship.
