Madugu promises more firepower against Senegal in ‘Return Match’
Nigeria’s Super Falcons will adopt a more intense approach when they face Senegal’s Lionesses in their second international friendly on Monday, head coach Justine Madugu said, after edging the West Africans 2-1 in their first meeting last week.
The 10-time African champions, preparing for next month’s Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, will meet Senegal again at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne-Remo.
Madugu said his side would be ‘more intentional at the fore’ as both teams sharpen tactics ahead of the continental showpiece.
On Friday, goals from Barcelona striker Asisat Oshoala, who converted a penalty, and midfielder Toni Payne gave Nigeria victory, before Senegal pulled one back late in the game.
The two sides last met in WAFCON qualifying in 2016, when Nigeria advanced 3-1 on aggregate.
Nigeria, chasing a record-extending 11th title, will face Egypt, Zambia and debutants Malawi in Group C in Morocco.
Senegal are drawn in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya. The tournament runs from July 25 to August 16 and doubles as Africa’s qualifying competition for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The top four teams will qualify directly, while the fifth-placed side will contest an intercontinental playoff.
