Adeshina Makes History with NCAA High Jump Victory, Completes Undefeated Season
Temitope Adeshina delivered a historic performance on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, winning her first outdoor title in the women’s high jump at Hayward Field.
The victory marks her third NCAA crown overall and caps an undefeated season, completing a rare sweep of both indoor and outdoor titles.
The junior standout cleared her first six bars with ease, recording her only miss at the final height of 1.99m. With the triumph, Adeshina secured Texas Tech’s first NCAA outdoor title in the event since Zarriea Willis claimed gold in 2019.
Adeshina now joins Red Raider legend Sally Kipyego as the only women’s athletes in programme history to win at least three NCAA titles.
Her achievement also resonates on the international stage. Adeshina became just the third Nigerian student-athlete to complete a field event double in a single season, following Blessing Okagbare’s long jump sweep in 2010 and Ruth Usoro’s triple jump sweep in 2021.
Nigeria now boasts four NCAA outdoor titles and seven overall in field events in 2026, the most in the nation’s history in a season in the Championships.
