Chelsea Enter Race for Morocco’s Rising Star Bouaddi
Chelsea have joined Arsenal and a host of Europe’s elite clubs in pursuit of Morocco’s World Cup breakout star Ayyoub Bouaddi, according to reports.
The 18-year-old midfielder, currently with Lille, has attracted widespread attention after a dazzling debut in Morocco’s 1-1 draw against Brazil.
Bouaddi, who recently switched international allegiance from France to Morocco, impressed with a 91% pass accuracy, five defensive interventions, and three successful dribbles across 90 minutes.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that Chelsea are now firmly in the race alongside Arsenal, with Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool also monitoring the situation. Any potential deal is expected to command a fee in the region of £60 million.
Speaking to The Athletic after his debut, Bouaddi addressed speculation over his future: ‘For the moment, I am only focused on the World Cup and I cannot answer to this right now. Of course, I’m really happy to know that some clubs are interested in me. But, for now, I’m only focused on the World Cup with Morocco and we will try to give everything to do our best.’
