Dambile Runs 19.74 to Win 200m at Doha Diamond League, Targets Commonwealth Gold
South Africa’s sprint sensation Sinesipho Dambile has declared his intent to claim gold at next month’s Commonwealth Games, sending a clear warning to Nigeria and other rivals across the Commonwealth.
Fresh from clocking 19.74 seconds to win the men’s 200m at his fourth Diamond League appearance of the season, Dambile described 2026 as ‘the best season of my life’ and vowed to build on his momentum.
‘I want the Commonwealth Games, I want the gold there, then I will go to the ultimate championship,’ he said, underlining the importance of the upcoming Games for himself and his team.
Nigeria, who have never won the men’s 200m at the Commonwealth Games, face a daunting challenge. Their best results remain two bronze medals, David Ejoke in Kingston 1966 and Daniel Effiong in Victoria 1994. With Dambile in peak form, the prospect of breaking that long-standing medal drought becomes even more difficult.
