Iwobi: Fulham ‘Patiently Waiting’ for Silva Successor

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed that the squad is ‘patiently waiting’ for confirmation of who will replace Marco Silva as manager, following the Portuguese coach’s departure earlier this month.

Speaking to Talksport hosts Max Rushden and Charlie Baker, the Nigerian international admitted that the players were initially unsettled by the news.

‘Obviously when we got told that Marco was leaving, I was active [on the squad’s internal WhatsApp group]. Thinking, ‘Oh no, who are we going to get in next?’ But ever since then, it’s been pretty quiet. I’m sure people are waiting for the message to say, ‘This is who we’re going to get.’ No-one has said anything yet, but we’re just patiently waiting,’ Iwobi said.

Reflecting on his own experience, Iwobi insisted he would have no difficulty adapting to a new manager.

‘I can only go off my experience with the national team and at Everton. I’ve had several managers there, so it won’t be difficult for me to adapt. We’ll be ready to play whoever the manager is. Of course, I’ve worked with Frank Lampard before [at Everton] and he’s someone I really enjoyed working with,’ he explained.

Iwobi stressed that the most important factor is the new manager’s commitment to improving the club.

‘I don’t really mind as long as the manager that comes in wants to help better the club and so do the players,’ he added.
