Nigeria Weightlifting Federation Urges Faith in Athletes as Glasgow Campaign Looms

The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) has expressed confidence that Team Nigeria’s lifters will deliver strong performances at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Speaking on Tuesday, an NWF official emphasized the quality of athletes currently in camp and their readiness to rise to the occasion.

‘I am optimistic that the athletes who eventually represent Nigeria will give a very good account of themselves in Scotland. We have quality lifters in camp and I believe they will rise to the occasion when it matters most,’ said the unnamed official in a media statement from the Federation.

Nigeria’s weightlifting team will be aiming to build on their success at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, where they won six medals, two gold, one silver, and three bronze.

With preparations underway, the current squad is eager to surpass that tally in Glasgow and further cement Nigeria’s reputation as a powerhouse in African and Commonwealth weightlifting.

The Glasgow Games will run from July 25 to August 16, with Nigeria’s lifters expected to feature prominently across multiple categories.
