Enekwechi Returns to Eugene for Diamond League Showdown, Ezekiel Out
African Shot Put record holder and five-time Nigerian national titleholder, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, will make his third consecutive appearance at the Prefontaine Classic, the ninth leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League next month.
Fresh off his fifth national crown at the Nigerian Championships in Yaba, Lagos, where he recorded his longest throw in the history of the Championships (21.64m), the 33-year-old is set to return to Hayward Field, a venue that has become his proving ground.
In 2024, Enekwechi stunned with a lifetime best of 21.91m, and last year he broke new ground again, surpassing the 22m barrier with a record-setting 22.10m, the longest throw ever by an African.
Fans now eagerly await whether he can extend his streak and establish yet another personal best in Eugene.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s 400m hurdles record holder and World Championships finalist, Ezekiel Nathaniel, has been removed from the 400m event after initially being listed.
Nigeria’s presence at the meet remains strong, however, with Ella Onojuvwevwo, the 2026 world indoor leader, set to make her Diamond League debut.
Joining her is Kanyinsola Ajayi, reigning NCAA champion in both the 60m indoor and 100m outdoor events, who will also step onto the Diamond League stage for the first time.
