CAF General Secretary Hails Nigeria’s Football Infrastructure Drive
Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samson Adamu, has lauded the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under the leadership of President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau MON, for its ambitious infrastructure projects designed to transform the future of Nigerian football.
Adamu, who inspected the ongoing construction of the NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and new training pitches at the Package B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, described the initiative as a ‘legacy investment’ that will serve generations to come.
He noted that the facilities would provide a strong foundation for nurturing young talents and strengthening Nigeria’s football ecosystem.
‘Being a Nigerian and seeing what is being built here, I can only be proud. The future looks extremely bright. This is the type of facility that will help produce the next Jay-Jay Okochas and many more great players,’ Adamu said.
He emphasized the importance of infrastructure capable of accommodating all national teams and age-grade categories, while bringing together players from across the country.
Adamu also expressed gratitude to the NFF and the Government of Nigeria for their hospitality during his working visit, which includes preparations for the upcoming CAF Congress and CAF Awards scheduled to take place in Nigeria.
NFF President Gusau reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to delivering the project within the agreed two-year timeline. With construction now in its fifteenth month since commencement in March last year, Gusau disclosed that approximately nine months remain to completion.
He expressed confidence in the contractors’ ability to meet the deadline, stressing that the Federation will continue to monitor progress closely.
Providing updates, Gusau revealed that one of the artificial pitches is already 80 percent complete, with other components advancing simultaneously. He explained that once the playing surface is fully rooted, attention will shift to internal finishing works across the facility.
‘I am satisfied with the pace and quality of work on the site. The project’s proximity to the NFF headquarters allows us to carry out regular inspections. Work is progressing well, and we will continue to support the contractors to ensure completion within the agreed period,’ Gusau concluded.
