‘It Was a Fight literally to The Finish but I Wanted It More’: Jefferson-Wooden Reacts After 100m Win in Eugene

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden of the United States claimed a dramatic victory in the women’s 100m, crossing the line first after what she described as a fight ‘literally to the finish.’

Her disciplined approach and determination carried her through in one of the tightest races of the meet.

Jefferson-Wooden reflected afterwards: ‘It was a fight literally to the finish, but I wanted it more, so I got it. I’ll probably go back and look at the race and see what I could fix, but you know the biggest thing was to not be able to go out there.

‘I tried to run a 120 right, not focusing on the line but running through it and so I feel like that’s why I got the win today, but then also just being real disciplined on who I am and what I bring to the table.’

Sha’Carri Richardson, also of the USA, finished second in 10.79, while teenage sensation Adaejah Hodge of the British Virgin Islands ran 10.80 to claim third.

Nigeria’s Favour Ofili ran a season’s best of 11.07 to finish eighth.
