Slot Tipped for Netherlands Job

Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot is in talks with the Dutch FA (KNVB) to become the next Netherlands head coach, according to reports on Monday.

Slot, 47, was dismissed by Liverpool in June after a disappointing 2025/26 season, despite narrowly securing UEFA Champions League qualification.

He had previously won the Premier League in his debut season at Anfield, raising expectations before the team’s decline.

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that Slot is on the KNVB’s shortlist to replace Ronald Koeman, who resigned following a poor FIFA World Cup campaign.

The Netherlands were eliminated in the round of 32 after a penalty shootout defeat to Morocco. Plettenberg added that initial talks have already taken place, though other candidates remain under consideration.

Italian transfer expert Nicolo Schira also revealed earlier in July that Erik ten Hag, currently serving as technical director at FC Twente, is another candidate for the role.

Slot’s managerial career began at Cambuur Leeuwarden in 2016 before moving to AZ Alkmaar in 2019.

He later joined Feyenoord in 2021, where he enjoyed a successful four-year spell, winning the Eredivisie in 2023 and the Dutch Cup in 2024, while also guiding the team to the UEFA Conference League final in 2022.

The KNVB is expected to make a decision in the coming weeks as they seek stability and renewed success for the Oranje following their World Cup disappointment.
