Moses Simon: Qualifying for 2030 FIFA World Cup Not Negotiable

Super Eagles assistant captain Moses Simon has declared that missing the 2030 FIFA World Cup is not an option for Nigeria, as the team looks to rebuild after the painful failure to qualify for the 2026 edition.

Speaking on behalf of the squad, Simon admitted that the disappointment of missing football’s biggest stage for the second consecutive time still lingers among the players.

‘We’re still hurting because every player wanted to play at the World Cup. People should understand that we care deeply about the Super Eagles and representing Nigeria,’ the FC Paris winger said.

Nigeria’s absence from the 2026 tournament extended a frustrating run after also missing the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Simon acknowledged the frustration of fans but emphasized that the players share the same pain.

‘The fans are disappointed, we’re disappointed too, but now our focus is on making sure we don’t repeat those mistakes,’ he added.

Attention has now shifted to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the next World Cup qualifying cycle.

Under head coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles are determined to restore confidence and re-establish themselves among Africa’s elite.

Simon expressed optimism that with unity, proper preparation, and continued support from Nigerians, the team can bounce back stronger.

‘We have to move on from what happened. The disappointment cannot be erased overnight, but we are committed to ensuring Nigeria returns to the world stage. With the right mindset and support, we will make the country proud again,’ Simon concluded.
