Onojuvwevwo Added to World Athletics Testing Pool

Ella Onojuvwevwo has become the latest Nigerian track and field star to be officially included in the World Athletics Registered Testing Pool (RTP), signaling her rise to the elite tier of global competition.

The 21-year-old’s inclusion places her under the direct anti-doping oversight of the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), shifting her testing responsibilities away from the National Anti-Doping Committee and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.

This designation underscores her growing stature in world athletics and the heightened responsibilities that come with competing at the highest level.

Onojvwevwo earned her place in the RTP following electrifying performances in the 2026 season.

Indoors, she set a new African record with a time of 50.28 seconds, the fastest by any woman in the world over 400m indoors this year.

Outdoors, she made history with a 49.47 run, becoming the fourth Nigerian woman to break the 50-second barrier and the first since Falilat Ogunkoya achieved the feat in 1996.

Her inclusion expands Nigeria’s representation in the RTP to six athletes, joining former world champion hurdler Tobi Amusan, Favour Ofili, Ezekiel Nathaniel, Tima Godbless, and Kayinsola Ajayi.

Athletes in the RTP are required to submit detailed quarterly whereabouts updates and remain available for random, no-notice testing at all times through digital platforms such as ADAMS and the Athlete Central app.

The RTP is a cornerstone of the global anti-doping framework, designed to protect the integrity of sport and ensure fair competition.
